How Many Custom Bubble Mailers Should You Order?
April 23, 2026
Custom mailers get cheaper per unit as the quantity climbs, which creates a real tension: order too few and your per-unit cost is high, order too many and you have cash tied up in boxes of packaging in a closet. The right number is not the biggest you can afford — it is the one that matches how fast you actually ship.
The cleanest way to decide is to work backward from your shipping volume rather than forward from the price break.
Start with your monthly ship rate
Estimate how many parcels you send per month in this size. Multiply by the number of months of runway you are comfortable holding — three to six months is typical for a settled product. That is your target quantity. Then check where it lands against the price breaks and nudge up only if a break is within easy reach.
Illustrative price breaks
| Quantity | Relative unit cost | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 500 | Highest | First run, testing a design |
| 1,000 | Lower | Small brand, steady orders |
| 5,000 | Lower still | Established monthly volume |
| 10,000+ | Lowest | High-volume, settled product |
These are directional, not a price list — your real breaks depend on size, material, and finish. But the shape is always the same: the biggest savings come early, and the curve flattens, so chasing the very top tier rarely pays if it means holding a year of stock.
When to order more than your math suggests
Two cases justify going bigger: a design you are confident is permanent (your core logo, not a seasonal promo), and a genuine price break sitting just above your calculated number. A design you might change in three months is a reason to order less, not more — unsold mailers with an old logo are pure waste.
The low-risk way to start
For a first run, our 500-unit minimum exists precisely so you can prove a design in the real world before committing to volume. Lock the artwork, ship a few hundred, confirm it looks right on doorsteps and in photos, then scale on identical specs.
Order from your ship rate, not the price break: monthly volume × 3–6 months of runway. Go bigger only for a permanent design or a nearby price break. Start at 500 to prove it, then scale on the same specs. We’ll quote every tier so you can see the curve.
